He married Lucy Beatrice (Betts) Knott-Watson on June 30, 1923 at St. John's Church, Hobart,, in Tasmania,. Timothy Watson died at age 59 years old on February 13, 1938 in Hobart, TAS, and was buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Queens Walk,, in New Town, City of Hobart County, Tasmania,.

Thompson, Thomas John, fourth eldest son of the late Amelia and George Watson, of Hobart, to Lucy Beatrice, eldest daughter of the late Lucy and William Betts, of Longley. The Mercury, Hobart. 13th February 1939. IN MEMORIAM. WATSON. - In loving memory of our dear daddy, Timothy John Watson, late of the 12th Battalion, A.I.F., who departed this life on February 13, 1938. Not a day do we forget you, in our hearts you are always near, God alone knows how we miss you, as it dawns the second sad year. Calm and peaceful he is sleeping, free from sorrow, free from pain, In God's tender care we leave him, until we meet again. ( Inserted by his loving children and sister.)

In 1879, in the year that Timothy John Watson was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1884, Timothy was just 5 years old when on December 6th, the Washington Monument was completed. Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.
