Vernon Hugh Williams of Davis, Murray County, Oklahoma was born on November 12, 1942 to Hubert Woodrow Williams and Violet Queen (Goodwin) Williams. He had siblings Orel Ron Williams, Gerald Don Williams, Vandel Gene Williams, Rita Queen (Williams) Tate, Vikki Lu Williams, Renee (Williams) Light, and Tim Williams. Vernon Williams died at age 68 years old on May 17, 2011.

In 1942, in the year that Vernon Hugh Williams was born, from January 7th through April 9th, the Battle of Bataan was fought in the Philippines. At the end of the battle, the U.S. and Filipino forces surrendered and a three-year occupation of the Philippines by Japan began. Between 60,000 and 80,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered and were marched around 60 to 69 miles - most were beaten, abused, or killed. Named the Bataan Death March, it was later declared to be a war crime.

In 1966, at the age of 24 years old, Vernon was alive when on September 8th, the first Star Trek episode, "The Man Trap," was broadcast on NBC. The plot concerned a creature that sucked salt from human bodies. The original series only aired for 3 seasons due to low ratings.
