She had siblings Cody Durham Caffey, Ernest Combs Caffey, William Lee Caffey, Lon Rochelle Caffey, Mollie Olivia Caffey, Olive Leola Caffey, Irene Fern Caffey, Rose Francis Caffey, Golda "Pete" Caffey, and Myra Nell Caffey. Vollie Moore died at age 103 years old on November 2, 2006.

    MOORE-Vollie Caffey Moore, a resident of Covina for more than 70 years, died on November 2, 2006 at the age of 103. Born Vollie Ether Caffey on October 12, 1903, in Sweetwater, Texas, she was the oldest daughter of William Spell and Ida Floy Caffey. She graduated from Hermleigh High School in 1922, and later married Willie Lafayette (Bill) Moore, whom she described as the "handsomest man in the county," in February 1923. She was married to Bill until his death in 1994. Vollie and Bill moved to Covina with their son Bill in the late 1920's. She and her husband worked in the packinghouses for many years. She was a seamstress, and later worked for the school district in the cafeteria until her retirement. After retiring, Vollie and Bill traveled and remained active with friends, family and their church. Vollie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer docent fo r the Covina Historical Society until the age of 98. She was known for her generosity, her great cooking and her strong constitution. She enjoyed gardening into her late 90s, and shared homemade jams, and canned fruits and vegetables from her backyard with family and friends. Her wonderful "from scratch" cakes and pies were the highlight of decades of potlucks and family holiday meals. Her beloved husband, Bill, her grandson, Bill Moore, Jr. and her brothers Lon, Jack and Cody and her sister, Olivia, preceded Vollie in death. She is survived by her son, Bill Moore and his wife Helen of Inyokern, CA, granddaughters Mary Moore, of Canyon Country, CA, Vicki Moore, of Palo Alto, CA, Monica Stalter, of Bailey, CO, and Nancy Lynn Moore, of Inyokern, CA. She is also survived by her sisters Irene Jordan, Goldie "Pete" Foster, Rose Minor, Nell Lamberth and Leola Thompson and seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakdale Memorial Park, 1401 S. Grand Ave. in Glendora. The visitation is Friday, November 10, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the "family room" and the memorial service will be Saturday, November 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In recognition of her devotion to her faith and her church, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Baldwin Park Church of Christ Bible Fund, 3510 Baldwin Park Blvd., Baldwin Park, CA 91706.

In 1916, at the age of just 13 years old, Vollie was alive when in June, the U.S. Congress authorized a plan to expand the armed forces over the next five years. Called the National Defense Act of 1916, the national law expanded the National Guard and Army (the Army added an aviation unit), created the Reserves, and gave the President expanded authority to federalize the National Guard. It also allowed the government to stockpile, in advance, materiel to be used in wartime.
