Walter Nicholas Niva of Spotsylvania, Spotsylvania County, Virginia was born on June 25, 1899 to Maria Helena (Lahti) Niva and Abram Niva. He had siblings Mary (Niva) Rosenberger, Arnold Alexander Niva, and Jade Carl George Harold Niva. Walter Niva died at age 72 years old on December 24, 1971 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Henrico County.

  • Introduction

    Walt was a lifelong friend and adopted family member of the Langridge family in Spotsylvania. He was in the Merchant marines and sailed the Great Lakes With James Langridge Sr for many years. He was like a brother to James and Frances and an uncle to the Langridge children. Walt moved in with the Langridge family near the end of his life here on earth. He loved to play cards and taught everyone to play Pinochle, Spades, Hearts, Rummy, 2 handed Solitaire, and Cribbage. Walter was an Army Veteran who enlisted in 1942 for the duration of the war plus 6 months. Walt's body was buried with full military honors in CULPEPER NATIONAL CEMETERY, 305 US AVENUE CULPEPER, VA 22701

Walt signed up and fought for our country. That makes him one of America's many heroes. I pray the God loving American citizens will continue the tradition. Walt was a very kind and generous man. Our country needs a lot more Walter N. Nivas.
