Walter Thomas Chettle was born in 1892 in Narrandera, NSW Australia to Thomas Arthur Chettle and Alice Louise Chettle ( Dicker, and had siblings Victor Chettle and Arthur Leslie Chettle. He married Elizabeth Sarah"Dot"Greenaway ( Newell ( Chettle ( Smye, and had children Frederick Thomas Chettle and Walter Henry 'Harry' Chettle. Walter Chettle died at age 28 years old on December 11, 1921 in Brisbane, QLD, and was buried on December 12, 1921 at South Brisbane Cemetery 185 Annerley Rd, in Dutton Park, Brisbane City County.

(Dot.) loving daddy of Freddy and Harry, eldest son of Mr. an Mrs. T. Chettle, Barellan, New South Wales, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. F. Smye, railway station, Marnoo, Victoria, aged 29 years.

In 1892, in the year that Walter Thomas Chettle was born, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.

In 1905, he was just 13 years old when the German born physicist, Albert Einstein, proposed the Special Theory of Relativity: 1) that observers can never detect uniform motion except relative to other objects and that 2) unlike the velocity of massive objects, the speed of light is a constant and is the same for all observers independent of their constant velocity toward or away from the light source. Not such simple concepts that lead to the equation everyone now knows: E = mc2.
