A truly good man to the core.
Despite the awful marital issues that were inflicted upon him, he remained a decent and caring gentleman. I remember when we saw him, despite us being young at the time, his concern for myself and siblings to keep us safe from the dangers of the swamp/lake. He never raised his voice to any of us, and genuinely cared for us, even though we were his step-grandchildren. He even defended us from our grandmother, who the entire family, to this very day, consider to be one of the worst people to ever walk the planet. He deserved better than Gladys and we'll never understand why he didn't leave her ... Hopefully he's found peace now.
