He married Thelma Sarah House Camp on May 17, 1930, in Corning, Iowa. They had four children in 11 years. He died on September 20, 1986, in Corning, Iowa, at the age of 76, and was buried there. In the mid 50's, Willard quit farming and started doing pump and windmill repairs. By 1969 Willard had estimated he had repaired nearly 1000 windmills. Willard and his wife had an intense interest in kids.
