William Lawther died at age 72 years old on July 5, 1952 in Benalla, Benalla Rural City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Benalla Cemetery Cemetery Rd, in Benalla.

The Benalla Ensign. Victoria. 10th July 1952. OBITUARY. MR. W. A. LAWTHER. The death occurred on Saturday morning at his late residence, Sydney Road, of Mr. William Alexander Lawther, at the age of 78 years. He was born at Bonnie Doon, and was a son of the late John and Sarah Ann Lawther. He was married at Benalla 33 years ago to Miss Agnes Goodman, who survives him. For many years he carried on farming pursuits at Lima South, and came to reside in Benalla in 1935. He was a keen follower of sport, especially football and cricket.
