He had siblings Lucy Mary Ann (Dovaston) Madex, Alfred George Dovaston, Lillian Selina Dovaston, Annie Dovaston, Sydney Joseph Dovaston, Madge Jessie Dovaston Shalders, and Wilfred John Dovaston. He married Ethel May (Branfield) Dovaston in 1914, and had children William Henry Dovaston, Claud Douglas Dovaston, Malcolm Alfred Dovaston, and Vivian Francis Dovaston. William Dovaston died at age 35 years old on April 6, 1929 in Melbourne, Victoria.
