    He was not an only child He was the youngest child. He had 5 siblings. He was known as "Joe". His brother is my grandfather Percival Archibald Preston. He married Winnifred Woods in England. had one daughter Jill Diana Preston. He sailed to England on the H.S.Dover Castle torpoed 26 May 1917 at 11. a.m. in the Mediterranean rescured by a British trawler. Would like to try to find his grandaughters. His nephew Vincent Preston lost contact with cousin Jill Preston after mer mother Winnifred re married with Bill.

    10 October 1940 W. E. PRESTON. Mr. William Ernest Preston,- a native of Ipswich died In Melbourne recently. The youngest son of the late Mr. Edward Preston and Mrs. Preston, of Liverpool Street, North Ipswich, he was born here 49 years ago. After attending the North Ipswich State School he began his career as a mechanic, and for a time was employed at the railway workshops. When the World War broke out he went as a munition worker to the Vickers plant in England. On the voyage over his ship was torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea, but a British trawler rescued all except three of the complement of 500 persons. He lost all his tools and clothing. While in the Old Country Mr. Preston married Miss Winnifred Woods, and after the war he returned to Queensland. For several years he was employed by Messrs. Elphinstone in Brisbane, then six months ago he signed a three years' contract with Messrs. Webb in Melbourne. Shortly after his transfer to Victoria, however, he entered hospital for a serious operation, but he did not recover from the illness. He is survived by his wife and one child in Melbourne, also his mother, two sisters--Mesdames J. J. Meekin and W. J. Rawlings and three brothers Messrs. Charles Allen. Albert Edward and Percy A. Preston, who live in Ipswich.
