He married Eileen May Malone Smith, and had children Therese Anne Smith, Jennifer Mary Kerby (Smith), and Christine Frances Kingsland (Smith). William Smith died at age 47 years old on October 3, 1960, and was buried at Beverly National Cemetery Section Y Site 169D Bridgeboro Road - Bridgeboro Road, in Beverly, Nj.
