She married John on April 10, 1920 in Williamstown, Wood County, WV, USA and the couple had three children together. She passed away on Apil 9, 1937 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia. His father John was born on March 10, 1873 in Danville, Vermillion County, Illinois, USA and grew up in Union, Putnam, West Virginia, USA. After marrying Lodica, they lived in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia, USA and he worked in the carpet industry. He passed away on June 4, 1952 in Parkersburg, Wood County, West Virginia, United States.

    William had siblings including Raymond Harmon (1916-) and Ruth Naomi Harmon (1926-1991).
  • Military Service

    William served in both the US Air Force and US Army, completing two tours in Korea and two in Vietnam. He received numerous medals, including The Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Vietnam, where he was shot in the back of the head. William Harmon retired from the Army as Staff Sergeant (E6) in January 1971. He served from March 26, 1954 until December 31, 1971.

    After his time in the military, he became a long haul truck driver. William retired from truck driving 1996.
  • Personal Life & Family

    On December 19, 1959 he married Anna Mae Haught (1938-2014) in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, USA. The couple had four children together.

    Born in Parkersburg, WV to John Thomas & Lodica Ellen (Reed) Harmon. Brothers: Raymond & Jesse (died as small child) Sisters: Viola, Doris, Nola (died at birth),Grace Leona (died at birth), Ruth Naomi and Betty Lou Rose. Married Anna Mae (Haught) on Dec. 19, 1959. Children: Rose Marie, Lolla Ruth , John William & Terresa Ann. Had 6 grandchildren at the time of his death, John ,Christina , Kelly , Charles, Corey, and Chase. Served in the US Air Force & US Army (Korea twice, Viet Nam twice). Earned several medals, including The Purple Heart (for injuries sustained in Viet Nam during his second tour there. Had been shot in the back of the head). Retired from the Army as SSG-E6 in Jan., 1971 and became a long haul truck driver. Retired from truck driving 1996. Died unexpectedly at home in Roseville, Ohio, Christmas Day 2000. Burried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Roseville, Ohio with a military funeral service by his friends at the Roseville post of the American Legion (#71). Saddly missed & forever gone, but NEVER forgotten! This is a military picture of my Daddy, William H. Harmon. It hung in our living room(s) as long as I can remember.
After the death of my father, my brother made a copy of the original for me...I then made copies for my other siblings, my children & grandchildren, and my family album.
An 8 x 10 of this photo now hangs in my own living room.
In 1968, when his hometown (Parkersburg, WV)paper did an article on his service, they used this photo.
My daddy was my hero. He served in both the Air Force and the Army.
He served two tours in the Korean Conflict and two tours in the Viet Nam War.
He was shot in the back of the head during his 2nd tour in Viet Nam & rec.'d the Purple Heart.He was very proud of his service and so am I.
