William Joseph Samuel Moate 1892 - 1965

William Moate was born in 1892 to Joseph Samuel Moate and Margurite Moate, and had a brother Clyde Montague Moate. He married Marguerite Myrtle Moate ( Clark, and had children Pearl Marguerite Griggs ( Moate, Peggy Louisa Moate, and Mary "Joan" Moate. William Moate died at age 73 years old in 1965.

In 1892, in the year that William Joseph Samuel Moate was born, on October 12th, the "Pledge of Allegiance" was first recited in unison by students in U.S. public schools. Composed the previous August by Francis Bellamy, it was to be recited in 15 seconds and originally read: "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." "Under God" was added in the 1950's.
