He was in a relationship with Jennie Miller, and had children Jane M Meyl, John Miller, William Miller Jr., and Dorothy (Miller) Knapp. William Miller died at age 30 years old on June 14, 1916 in Utica.

In 1886, in the year that William Miller was born, on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.

In 1897, at the age of just 11 years old, William was alive when on March 4th, William McKinley became the 25th President of the United States. He had beaten William Jennings Bryan in the 1896 election by 51% to 46.7% in the popular vote. Six months into his second term as President, McKinley was assassinated.
