  • Introduction

[NAME/SUMMARY] Whyte, William Muir (18 Jan 1889 ~ 7 Nov 1971), Service#=2524 [NOTE] {🞺} My grandfather         William Muir Whyte was my grandfather. He fought in the 1st World War from 1916, returning home to Australia in 1919. Although he grew up in the Prahran area, after the War he spent his life living in Chelsea, Victoria at 18 Embankment Grove.         He was married to Euphemia Lillian Whyte (nee Brear) and they had 4 children (3 girls and a boy). He was later Grandfather to 8 Grandchildren. Upon returning from the War he resumed duties with the Melbourne City Council as an electrician. At one point later on, he was responsible for electrical work done on the Shrine of Remembrance.         He was also a keen pigeon racer, with his birds holding a number of racing records. He died at home in 1971 at the age of 82.         Submitted 26 January 2018 by David Dunbar          - 'vwma.org.au' {🞺} Euphemia Whyte: born BRIAR *vs* BREAR [BIRTH: 18 Jan 1889, Prahran VIC] {🞺} 18 January 1889 @BurialInfo {🞺} Place of Birth - Prahran VIC @MilitaryRecords [MARRIAGE] {🞺} WIFE: Euphemia Lillian Brear; Female; 10 March 1890; Prahran ~ 2 January 1998; Chelsea         ⚱ - 'findagrave.com' {🞺} @MyHeritage (wife):         [❀] Euphemia Whyte (born Briar, 1890 ~ 1997) [MILITARY SERVICE: WW1, Service#=2524] {🞺} First Australian Imperial Force Personnel Dossiers, 1914-1920;         TITLE: WHYTE William Muir : Service Number - 2524 : Place of Birth - Prahran VIC : Place of Enlistment - Melbourne VIC : Next of Kin - (Wife) WHYTE Euphemia Lilian; ITEM ID: 8388179; REC RANGE: 1914 - 1920; LOCATION: Canberra; CITATION: NAA: B2455, WHYTE WILLIAM MUIR; DOCUMENTS: 17 EXIST at 2023-08-28; [@NNA]: Click the blue "Items" box at " - 'recordsearch.naa.gov.au'" (Item ID=8388179). {🞺} Personal case files, World War I;         TITLE: WHYTE, William Muir - Service Number - 2524; ITEM ID: 21372196; REC RANGE: 1915 - 1972; LOCATION: Melbourne; CITATION: NAA: B73, M83232; DOCUMENTS: NONE at 2023-08-28; [@NNA]: Click the blue "Items" box at " - 'recordsearch.naa.gov.au'" (Item ID=21372196). {🞺} Personal case files, World War I;         TITLE: WHYTE, William Muir - Service Number - 2524; ITEM ID: 21372197; REC RANGE: 1932 - 1937; LOCATION: Melbourne; CITATION: NAA: B73, H83232; DOCUMENTS: NONE at 2023-08-28; [@NNA]: Click the blue "Items" box at " - 'recordsearch.naa.gov.au'" (Item ID=21372197). {🞺} @ - 'vwma.org.au'         [❀] Service Number: 2524; Enlisted: 24 July 1915, Melbourne, Victoria; Last Rank: Private; Last Unit: 12th Field Company Engineers; Born: Prahran, Victoria, February 1889; Home Town: Prahran, Stonnington, Victoria; Schooling: Not yet discovered; Occupation: Electrician; Died: Natural causes, Chelsea, Victoria, 7 November 1971; Cemetery: Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Melbourne; Memorials:         [❀] World War 1 Service; 24 Jul 1915: Enlisted AIF WW1, Private, SN 2524, Melbourne, Victoria; 11 Dec 1915: Involvement AIF WW1, Driver, SN 2524, 2nd Field Company Engineers, Enlistment/Embarkation WW1; 11 Dec 1915: Embarked AIF WW1, Driver, SN 2524, 2nd Field Company Engineers, RMS Mooltan, Sydney; 6 Oct 1919: Discharged AIF WW1, Private, SN 2524, 12th Field Company Engineers [DEATH: 7 Nov 1971, Chelsea, Vic] {🞺} 07 November 1971 @BurialInfo {🞺} Residence: Chelsea, Victoria, Australia; Death: Nov 7 1971; @ProbateRecord [WILL/PROBATE] {🞺} @MyHeritage, In Australia, Victoria, Will and Probate Index 1850-2009; Name: William Muir Whyte; Residence: Chelsea, Victoria, Australia; Death: Nov 7 1971; Occupation: Electrical Mechanic; Nature of grant: P; Date of grant: Feb 4 1972 [CHILDREN] {🞺} @MyHeritage (children):         [❀] Valda Dunbar (born Whyte, ? ~ 2015)         [❀] {UnknownGivenNames} Mccombe (born Whyte)         [❀] {UnknownGivenNames} Wishart (born Whyte) [SIBLINGS] {🞺} @FamilySearch (3 children):         [❀] Jane Janet Whyte (1890; Armadale, Vic ~ 12 September 1972; Heidelberg, Vic)                 (✤) 🧬 - 'familysearch.org'         [❀] Dorothy Keziah Whyte (1892; Armadale, Vic ~ 1893; Vic)                 (✤) 🧬 - 'familysearch.org' [PARENTS] {🞺} @FamilySearch (MARRIAGE DATE: 1887; LOCATION: Victoria, Australia):         [❀] John Whyte (Deceased)                 🧬 - 'familysearch.org'         [❀] Margaret Ann Cope (Deceased)                 🧬 - 'familysearch.org' [BURIAL/CREMATION] {🞺} NAME: William Muir Whyte; BORN: 18 January 1889; DIED: 07 November 1971; TYPE: Cremated; AT: Bunurong Memorial Park @smct.org.au; PLOT: Headstone Lawn Beam Burial, Row 29, Grave 043         GRAVE INFORMATION @ https:// - 'findagrave.com'         [❀] Grave 043 =❭ 048 @FAG:AtlantaDamaris27Aug2023 {🞺} MORE BURIAL INFO:         [❀] Memorials (findagrave) at the same location:                 ⚱ - 'findagrave.com'         [❀] SMCT BURIAL SEARCH:         ⚱ - 'smct.org.au' [MORE INFO] {🞺} 🧬💰 - 'www.myheritage.com' {🞺} 🧬 - 'familysearch.org' {🞺} 🧬💰 - 'www.ancestry.com.au' {🞺} 🧬William Muir Whyte (@AncientFaces) [BY: DENNIS BAREIS, 2023-08-28.856 - for BIOGRAPHY (ANCIENT FACES)] This information should help you find your relatives.
