William Rooke 1862 - 1944

William Rooke was born in 1862. He was in a relationship with Rosa Henrietta (Fielder) Rooke, and had children Henry James Rooke, Charles William Rooke, Florence Maude (Rooke) Burton, George Thomas Rooke, Walter Frederick Rooke, and Alice Olive Rooke. William Rooke died at age 81 years old in August 1944 at Corowa District Hospital Guy St, in Corowa, Corowa Shire Council County, NSW Australia, and was buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery 600 Princes Hwy, in Springvale, Greater Dandenong City County, VIC.

In 1862, in the year that William Rooke was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.

In 1887, by the time he was 25 years old, on January 28th, the largest recorded snowflakes fell in a snowstorm in Fort Keogh, Montana. They were supposed to have been 15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. A rancher in the area said that they were “larger than milk pans”. A Wild West tall tale?
