He entered the military as a Private in the Selective Service, a system that drafted men into military service during World War II. He was part of a group of enlisted men known as "Selectees." He served during World War II.

William Thomas Beatley, Jr., 76, of Heathsville, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000. He was a member and lifetime deacon of Fairfields Baptist Church, Burgess, and a member of Heathsville Lodge #109 AF&AM. Mr. Beatley was an Army Veteran of World War 11.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Moss Beatley, and a son, William Thomas "Tommy" Beatley 111 of Heathsville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15, at the Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood, with the Rev. Willard D. Bowen officiating. Interment was in Fairfields Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Danny Beatley, Pete Beatley, Joe Dunaway, Morris Fallin, Franklin Moss, Michael Edwards, Charles L. Rice, Clarence Gough, Eugene Forrest, John Wayne Stevens, Dr. Shahid Shamim, Ethridge Winstead and Aubrey Beatley. Memorials may be made to Mid-County Rescue Squad, Box 355, Heathsville, 22473, or to the Northumberland Rescue Squad, Box 1, Reedville, 22539.
