William Thomas Sain was born on May 7, 1922 to James Edward Sain and Nona Mae Hall Sain, and had siblings Albert Franklin Sain, Ruby Jo Sain Holland, Mae Bell Sain Cox, Zelma Louise Sain Hinson, Parnell Sain, Delmar Daniel Sain, and Edwin Darnell Sain. William Sain died at age 85 years old on August 13, 2007.

In 1922, in the year that William Thomas Sain was born, from October 22nd - 29th, 3,000 men of Benito Mussolini's National Fascist Party marched on Rome. (Mussolini waited in Milan, he did not participate in the March.) The day after the March Mussolini went to Rome and the King of Italy handed over power to Mussolini, in part because he was supported by the military, the business class, and the right-wing factions of Italy.

In 1939, he was 17 years old when on the 1st of September, Nazi Germany invaded Poland. On September 17th, the Soviet Union invaded Poland as well. Poland expected help from France and the United Kingdom, since they had a pact with both. But no help came. By October 6th, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany held full control of the previously Polish lands. Eventually, the invasion of Poland lead to World War II.
