William Tufts was born on October 31, 1805 in Billerica, Massachusetts United States to George Tufts and Rebecca (Frost), and had siblings Joshua F Tufts, Rebecca (Tufts), and Joseph Tufts. He was in a relationship with Charlotte (Corbett) beginning 1824 in Middlesex County, and had children Charlotte Maria (Tufts) and Charles Edgar Tufts. William Tufts died at age 66 years old in February 1872 in Innsbrook, VA.

In 1805, in the year that William Tufts was born, Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23rd in Sharon, Vermont. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York and when he was 24, he published the Book of Mormon. By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1831, when he was 26 years old, around July 15th, the volcanic island of Graham Island briefly emerged in the Mediterranean Sea. The island was discovered by Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, a British sea captain, on August 1st and claimed by the United Kingdom. The island still exists but is now once again underwater.
