In 1914, in the year that Ya Lin was born, in June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Yugoslavian national. Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to Serbia. At the time, the Teapot Dome scandal was seen as "greatest and most sensational scandal in the history of American politics".
