Susan Caroline (Tomlinson) Riddle
Susan Caroline Tomlinson was born 19 Nov 1850 in Rusk County Texas to Leonard and Mary (Franklin) Tomlinson. Now depending on where you get the information her father Leonard either died in August 1850 before she was born or he died in December just weeks after she was born of B. Fever. When Susan was one month old her brother John W Tomlinson died on 21 Dec1850. And on 7th of April 1851 her mother Mary Patsy (Franklin) Tomlinson died. Now I searched for months trying to find who had taken in the Tomlinson orphans or what had happened to them. I found that Susan older sister Rebecca Elizabeth Tomlinson had married on the 30 April 1851 in rusk County to her 1st cousin (Mary's sister Judith Polly Franklin's son) William Franklin Farrow. But that still left 4 children under 10 years of age, I was able to find Osbourne Goodwin Tomlinson living with Alva KuyKendell who was one of the Tomlinson's neighbors, I searched thru every page of every census in the whole county before I found her living with another member of the KuyKendells in 1860 just a few doors down from her parents place. But they had her with their last name. And then I found when she Married John Welcome Riddle in Nacogdoches County Texas on 14 Nov 1869 5 days before she turned 19. And I found her in the 1870 census living with her new husband and her brother and sister. John and Susan moved a few times in Texas and had 6 children while living in Texas and in 1886-1887 they packed everything up and moved to what was going to become Whatcom County Washington. They choose to homestead about 22 miles outside of Bellingham and the town was eventually named after John, it become known as Welcome Washington. John was the post master there, if they wanted to go to town in the early days they had to ferry across the middle fork of the Nooksack until the bridge was built many years later. Susan's husband John died in 1920 and she died 3 years later both in the little town named after them

Anna Mary Gates
Anna Mary Gate was the eldest daughter of Henry Augustine and his wife Caroline Cynthia (Riddle) Gates born on Halloween 1892 in the small town (that was named after her Grandfather John Welcome Riddle) Welcome Washington. Her Grandparents were pioneers to Whatcom County Washington having arrived there in 1886 from Texas. Her father worked in the mines and was a logger for some years and became a big part of the agriculture industry in Whatcom county. Anna Mary married Edward David Kline on the 19th of November 1910 less then 3 weeks after she turned 18. Her mother had married at 15 at wouldn't allow Anna to get married until she was 18. To this union 8 children were born 5 girls and 3 boys. At 41 years old she went into surgery for toxic goiter and 1hour and 45 minutes after surgery she died of shock. She was buried at the Welcome Cemetery. Anna is my 2nd Great Grandmother from her eldest daughter Cynthia Caroline (Callie) Kline McSorley. I am going to share a couple pictures of her 2 of them are very special to me in that they have 8 generations of eldest daughters in my family in which I am the 2nd to youngest and my daughter is the baby
