A. Rankin Johnson, 68, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.

Born July 13, 1946, in Williamsport, he was a son of A. Rankin and Joan Johnson.

He married the former Dorothy "Dottie" J. Sheasley on Feb. 14, 1974.

Rankin was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He worked as a mechanic at Allison Crane and Rigging.

Rankin was a former member of Church of the Savior Lutheran and current member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Rankin was a Loyalsock High School basketball star, played American Legion baseball, and raced drag cars and snowmobiles in his younger years.
He played softball at Elm Park and in various leagues and tournaments.
He was known for the amount of home runs he hit and his playing ability. He enjoyed trapshooting, was an avid Penn State fan and loved to help with his children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

Rankin was a great Husband, Father, and Pop.

Surviving in addition to his wife Dottie are three children,
Jason Johnson (Kristi), of Flowery Branch, Ga.,
Robyn Saar (Sean), of Trout Run,
and Kimberly Bigelow (Curt), of Williamsport;

eight grandchildren, Dennis 14, Sara 10, CJ 10, Cooper 9, Audrey 8, Sydney 8, Elle 3, and Irelyn 1;
two brothers, Joe Johnson (Karla), of New Haledon, N.J., and Curtis Johnson (Barb), of Montoursville; and his beloved dog, Row.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Melissa Johnson; a granddaughter, Brooke Bigelow; and mother-in-law, Betty Sheasley.

A funeral service to honor Rankin will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with Pastor Joshua L. Reinsburrow officiating.
Burial will be held at Green Lawn Memorial Park.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
