Asa Wolverton Manor orchards

Asa Wolverton Manor: This is the rear view of the Greek Revival Plantation Manor. The second owner put in fruit orchards and sold his fruit to people traveling down the Grand River. There are grape vines growing along the top edge of the ravine. This photo shows the three connecting buildings. The left side shows the three level barn; center building is the carriage house. The lower level is the summer stable. Originally the east side was open; the right building is the main manor. This home was built with only one bedroom on the second floor along side the ballroom. The main floor has the dining room, parlor and library, while the lower level has the servants quarters, kitchen, larder and walkin pantry. The house to the left is the first home Asa built and then lived in while he built the Manor that he lived in from 1851 to 1861 (till death) His widow Juliet, lived in the house till 1867 until she remarried John McIlroy and moved away.
