Bill Baranick

My grandfather Bill passed away long before I was born. He was born in Ukraine. Most of his siblings came to the United States. Only a couple remained in Ukraine. At that time the region of Ukraine where my family came from was known as Galicia -- which is today the western part of Ukraine. The family lived near the Dniestr River. My grandfather had many labor jobs. He was also a craftsman. When my grandmother met him in New York, it was said that he was making accordians. He loved accordians and their use in traditional Ukrainian music. I have a few photos of him playing the accordion and other photos of him performing traditional Ukrainian dance. As time went on he settled near relatives who were living in North Dakota. He opened a service station. Later his son Joseph (my father) helped him run the station.
