Bual Johnson Holbrook, age 88, of Bel Air, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2023. Born in Harford county, Maryland, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Verna (Johnson) Holbrook and the devoted husband of Carolyn (Simons) Holbrook. BJ, as he was affectionately known by his brothers and sisters (9 of 'em) and parents, was a man of deep faith, and his love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived his life.

Bual dedicated himself to bringing others into a relationship with the Lord, sharing the joy and fulfillment he found in his faith. His passion for spiritual matters extended to his academic pursuits. Bual achieved academic excellence, graduating from both the University of Baltimore and University of Maryland number 1 in his graduating classes. Notably, he never received a "B" throughout his academic journey – he was a perfectionist and anything other than an “A” would have been unacceptable.

Beyond his academic achievements, Bual loved “performing.” He was always telling jokes and funny stories (over and over and over!) He never seemed to forget a joke and was the Emcee for a the Southern Gospel band he was in. He played the harmonica (and other instruments) and also sang . He was the best harmonica player around and had quite an extensive collection of many high quality harmonicas as well as smaller ones. He could even play entire songs on a little 8 note keychain harmonica.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Bual is survived by his loving son, David (wife Janet) Holbrook, and daughter, Sharon (husband Jim) Moffett. He leaves behind a legacy in his 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bual is also survived by his brother, Doug (wife Francis) Holbrook, and sisters, Barbara "Joan" Edwards (husband Bill), Shirley "Gayle" Coss, and Delores Cullum (husband Russell).

Debby Stevens
I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
