Cecil L., of Holbrook 1924 - 2016 Cambridge, England - Holbrook, England

BRATHWAITE, Cecil L., of Holbrook, formerly of Cambridge, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2016, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 92. Born in Cambridge, Cecil has lived in Holbrook for many years. Cecil worked as a risk manager for General Motors for over 33 years. He was an active member of the Brookville Baptist Church in Holbrook for over 50 years. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, taking cruises, trips to casinos and vacationing on Cape Cod. Cecil was a proud Veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII, where he was part of the group that stormed the beach at Normandy, France. During his time in the Army he was the recipient of several medals, including the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Cecil is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Wilson) Brathwaite. Loving father of Vera Oliver of CA, Steven Brathwaite and his wife Donna of Dedham and Michele Brathwaite-Smith and her husband Pastor Larry Smith of Stoughton. Devoted brother of Elberton Braithwaite of NY, Lucinda Kennedy-Tate of Medford and the late Hilton Brathwaite. Dear grandfather of Troy, Stevon, Nicole, Adrian, Nina, Logan, Taylor and Shelby and 8 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank his caregiver, Maria Calixte. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a viewing on Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 4:00 - 5:30 PM and service from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. This will immediately be followed by a celebration of life at The Knights of Columbus, 25 Teed Drive, Randolph. The burial will be on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 10:45 AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne and everyone is welcome to attend. Cecil will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
