My maternal grandfather was the eldest of 5 and he always said his mother told them that they were Bohemian. However, the rest of the clan claims they are Hungarian and that Bohemian isn't a real ethnicity. I've researched and I believe Grandpap knew what he was talking about. So, to answer the question with your lovely photo, I do have ancestors from Bohemia.

I too have ancestors from Bohemia, they came to the states in 1854. My Great, Great Grandfather , Frank Konecne, served in the Civil War.

Sheri Charnell, knowing about your ancestors is wonderful. I know that not everyone in the families is interested but for those of us who are, it's nice to share with others.

Robert Letchford, a distant cousin did some research but I'm still unclear on territorial lines. I think your explanation supports my lack of clarity.

Robert Letchford, nice of you. Awesome information but a lot to take in. I'll have to give it some more time.

My grandmother was born in Plzen, Czechoslovakia in 1900 and my grandfather was born in Hubin, Russia but was Bohemian (1896). Both immigrated to the United States (grandmother in 1906 and grandfather in 1914) and their families moved to Mason City, Iowa for work.

Iowa was an ethnic Bohemian destination for emigrants coming to America and for my relatives who arrived via New York City in 1866.

There is a hand around the other child by her shoulder that hand looks odd also, the fingers. Maybe she was burned. It is a sad photo to me.
