Charles was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers - 19 Field Company - Service number 2129262 - Killed in action in Normandy on the 6th June, 1944 - the first day of the Invasion by the Allies! - Buried in the Bayeux War Cemetery, Normandy, France. Charles was born at 79a Bishops Road, Bethnal Green which was the address of the Public Assistance Hospital. There was a workhouse in the same road and it's likely these two institutions were linked.
