Colonel William Lendrum "Billy" Mitchell
Colonel William Lendrum "Billy" Mitchell was court-martialed in 1925 (after being demoted from Brigadier General) for insubordination. He accused Army and Navy leaders of an "almost treasonable administration of the national defense." Shortly after his court martial, he resigned from the service.
Billy Mitchell was known as the father of the Air Force. He was obviously not known for his tact and political astuteness. After his death in 1936, President Roosevelt honored him by making him a Major General.
