Ardmore — Just after sunrise, July 11, 2012, Dewayne Holbrook placed his hand in the nail scarred hand and crossed over Jordan.
The family welcomes family and friends to join them in celebrating his life, Saturday, July 28th at 4 p.m. in the Trinity Baptist Church with the Reverend Terry Tolbert officiating.
Born July 18, 1943, in Overbrook to Marvin and Lavelle Holbrook who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are grandparents, Hubert and Georgia Williams and Jim and Allie Holbrook. He married Kay Ralls on May 11, 1962, and they reunited in marriage on December 28, 2004.
Dewayne enjoyed restoring old cars, entering car shows, winning many trophies and being a member of the Blue River Car club. Antiques, collectibles, history and coins were enjoyed hobbies. He loved working with Royal Ambassadors and was known for the many unique and hard to beat pinewood cars built for grandsons and any boy who wanted one. Having earned a degree in Tool and Die Precision Machinery and working for Aero Commander for five years. Dewayne and Kay moved from Oklahoma City back to Ardmore in 1969 where he worked at Michelin as a precision machinist until his retirement. Dewayne loved the challenge of making something out of nothing. Family, and especially the grandchildren, loved anything made by Paw-Paw. If you could think it, he could build it. Broken, he could fix it. His favorite pastime was writing songs and playing guitar, especially with his brother and sons. We will forever hear his special melodies of fun, spiritual and heartfelt songs. He loved the Lord and his family, spending time with grandchildren and making people laugh brought him happiness. A patient man of gentle nature, wisdom passed down to children and grandchildren, will be missed by all who knew him.
Left with precious memories are his wife, Kay; daughter, Kim Johnson; sons, Cody and his wife, Ann and Caleb and his wife, Amanda; stepdaughters, Cristal and husband, Pat Paty and Desi and husband, Jeff Keen; grandsons, Dylan, Jesse, Jacob, Wyatt, Cody, Cooper, Paxton and Sylas; granddaughters, Katy, Amanda and Alisha; brother, Doyle Holbrook and his wife, Laura; sister, Mena Hill and husband, Woody; mother-in-law, Inez Ralls and her late husband, Harrell Ralls; also numerous, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a special cousin who he loved as a brother, Ronnie Ramsey.
