DONALD HOLBROOK OBITUARY
Breaking ground again-Donald M Holbrook, age 87, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 5, 2013. A resident of Fort Walton Beach since 1969, Don was a builder and developer in the area for many years until his retirement. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1969. He was also a member of the Hump Pilots Association and the CBI Veterans Association.
He was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Glenbeulah, Wis., to Charles and Charlotte Holbrook. On his 18th birthday he joined the "Brown Air Force" to fight in WWII and served in the China Burma India Theater from February 1944 until June 1946. Stationed with Chengjung 1339th B.U., he served as a flight engine mechanic, flew C-47s, and qualified C-47s, C-46s and C-54s for flight. Later with the 1369th (Shanghai) served on Gen. Wedemeyer's crew. A wounded veteran, he received medals of Honor from both the U.S. and China. When he returned home, he married Lorraine E. Velie. They celebrated their 66th wedding Anniversary on July 19, of this year. Don is survived by his wife, Lorraine E. Holbrook; and his daughters, Katherine C. Holbrook, Deborah A. Holbrook and Cynthia J. Holbrook; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial and home going service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church beginning at 11 a.m. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to make a memorial donation in Don Holbrook's name to make it to Good Shepherd Lutheran or their own church.'t
