Doris and Leslie, Christmas, 1989, at The Cloister at Sea Island, GA. This photo was taken after a massive ice storm caused electricity outages across GA. Without electricity for 2 days, this dinner was by candle-light until dessert was served, when the electricity was restored. Mother and I, and many of the guests, "made lemonade out of lemons" and spent the daylight hours for two days, around resort fireplaces, visiting and getting to know the other stranded guests. We both felt like it was one of the most fun Christmas holidays we'd ever had. Mom was always one to make the best of a bad situation, keeping a positive attitude, even during the toughest situations life threw at you.
