Doris and Leslie, Christmas, 1989, at The Cloister at Sea Island, GA. This photo was taken after a massive ice storm caused electricity outages across GA. Without electricity for 2 days, this dinner was by candle-light until dessert was served, when the electricity was restored. Mother and I, and many of the guests, "made lemonade out of lemons" and spent the daylight hours for two days, around resort fireplaces, visiting and getting to know the other stranded guests. We both felt like it was one of the most fun Christmas holidays we'd ever had. Mom was always one to make the best of a bad situation, keeping a positive attitude, even during the toughest situations life threw at you.

Mom was Full of Joy. Always had a smile on her face. She uplifted others who were distressed. Served as Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, TN and also at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, TN. Endless energy. Mother was raised in Raymond, Washington. Active outdoors woman. Avid Golfer, youth sailing, youth equestrian, adult tennis and youth archery. Mom excelled in many things. She was the Ladies Archery Champion in Washington State her senior year in high school. Mother was President of Alpha Xi Delta (AXD) sorority at LSU, Louisiana State University, 1944-45
* Doris' greatest joy was being a Mom to her daughter, Leslie Ann Grossman (born 1957) and son, Stephen Lewis Grossman (b. 1954)
Doris was instrumental in the charter of the AXD sorority at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, as well as the charter of P. E. O. Sisterhood Chapter, AK, in Morristown, TN. She died at the age of 67, of squamous cell carcinoma. The church was filled at her memorial service, with friends and loved ones, including her two surviving elder brothers, Conrad J. Lewis and John W. Lewis, Jr.
** Mother loved God, and is surely radiating "Doris Love" in her Forever Life, beyond this short life on Earth.

Harry Grossman of Morristown, Hamblen County, TN was born on October 13, 1927 in Kannapolis, Cabarrus County, North Carolina United States, and died at age 59 years old on March 23, 1987 at Morristown Hamblen Hospital, Morristown TN.
