These horses were purchased by Elmer Dettmer in the early 1940's. They were mainly used for field work. He purchased the spotted ones from Marse Nelson, from Ogallala, Nebraska first.. They were "Prince" and "Queen". His brothers also used them. The Sorrels were bought from Doc Brenell and were named "Dan" and "Barney". This pair Elmer usually drove. This photo was taken at the "Straub" place, his boyhood home. Queen was killed by lightning while Elmer was visiting Norma Jean Roos. When he married, Elmer took the Sorrels with him and later sold them on the sale.
