Fenelon Bird Rice
I've recovered an old photograph album from the late 1800's including faculty, staff, and students from Oberlin College which includes a photograph of Professor RICE who was a Professor of Music at Oberlin College. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Professor RICE likely in his 40's or 50's at the time it was taken. Most of the photographs, like this one was taken by the Pfeifer Studio from Columbus, OH who probably came to take all the photographs at the Oberlin campus. I believe that this is a photograph of Fenelon B. RICE.

Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Professor RICE and his family:

Fenelon Bird RICE was b. 2 Jan 1841 in Green, OH to parents David Lyman RICE (1820-1886) and Emily A. JOHNSON (1818-1902). Fenelon had two siblings including Dwight Chapman RICE (1848-1925) and Eltah Etta RICE (1857-1876). Fenelon married Helen Maria LIBBY (1843-1925) on 26 Sept 1863 and they had a son Louis “Louie” Merritt RICE (b. 1874). Fenelon died 26 Oct 1901 and is buried in the Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin, OH.

I’d like to get this treasure back to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.

Thanks,
Shelley
Date & Place: at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Lorain County, Ohio 44074, United States
