On December 30, 2015, while at a holiday gathering at a relative's house, Giancarlo went outside on a toboggan with 3 of his cousins around dusk. The toboggan spun out of control on the slope outside the home, went out into the road and into the path of a truck. The 3 cousins managed to get off just in time to avoid being hurt but Giancarlo was killed
