Hattie (Faulkner) Kee
Found in an antique store. Handwritten note attached - "Mrs. Hattie Faulkner Key [sic] oldest daughter of Aunt Emma". Note the little golden bits attached to her throat and finger to look like jewelry. At first I thought they were debris and almost tried to scrape them off.
Date & Place: in Tennessee USA

Gold added to a photo to show jewelry. Was this common?

ive never seen this
I've seen cheeks and lips with pink added but never gold added. I also thought there was a scratch on the photo. What a treasure. 🥰
They may not have been able to see the earrings. I forgot to mention that, like most tintype portraits I've seen, this image is tiny - roughly 1 inch wide by 2 inches tall. The gold at her throat is about the size of a large grain of sand, which is what I thought it was until I saw the scan. Somebody had a very good eye and a very steady hand to place the gold so accurately on such a small image.
I went back and measured the photo with a ruler - my memory was a bit off. The original is just under 2 inches wide and roughly 3 inches tall (I cropped out a bit of empty space over her head to reduce the file size). Whoever took that photo did a wonderful job.

Yes! I have seen this. :) I own an ambrotype with this type of gold plate detailing. On mine it's a bit faded but still noticeable under a light, on her brooch, chain & sleeve cuff:

If you're curious, with the ambrotype, the photo was developed on glass. :) A dark background in the case brings out the photograph.

Yes, I've seen it many times. It was not uncommon, though often not perfectly applied.

Yeah, I have a civil war soldier where they applied gold highlights to his stripes and buttons etc. It does look neat. Nice photo there.

I love antique photographs. In addition to sharing old photos of my family, I am also going through my collection of "antique store people". They've been sitting in a storage tub in my back room much too long and maybe some of their families will be able to find them here. If I'm able to identify the people in the photo, I upload it not only to AncientFaces, but also to Ancestry, FamilySearch, and Find-A-Grave. If the person in the picture is a military veteran, the photo also goes on Fold3. I figure that the more places I upload these pictures, the greater the chance that a relative will be able to find them.
