Scratched but you can still see very well how John looked! I'm so glad you adopted this tintype from an antique store and shared! I hope a distant family member recognizes him :)
What amazes me is how much detail there is in such a tiny image! This tintype and the one of Hattie (Faulkner) Kee are both only about 2 3/4 inches by 3 inches. If there's enough information written on the photos like this one has, I have great fun looking for these people on Ancestry. Mr. Carroll now has his photo posted here, Ancestry, Find-a-Grave, and Fold3. He came from a big family and had a lot of kids himself, so I'm sure someone will be delighted to find him. :)

I love antique photographs. In addition to sharing old photos of my family, I am also going through my collection of "antique store people". They've been sitting in a storage tub in my back room much too long and maybe some of their families will be able to find them here. If I'm able to identify the people in the photo, I upload it not only to AncientFaces, but also to Ancestry, FamilySearch, and Find-A-Grave. If the person in the picture is a military veteran, the photo also goes on Fold3. I figure that the more places I upload these pictures, the greater the chance that a relative will be able to find them.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
