Herbert Alexander Simon was born to German born to electrical engineer, inventor, and patent attorney Arthur Simon (1881-1948), and pianist Edna Marguerite Merkel (1888-1969).
Herbert received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (1978) and the Turing Award in computer science in 1975. He is considered a pioneer in artificial intelligence and information technology.
