Professional Football Coach. He joined the Rams as a member of Sid Gillman's coaching staff in 1955 and remained in pro football for the next 53 years, 43 of which were with the Rams' organization. In addition to his years with the Rams, he was defensive backfield coach for the AFL San Diego Chargers in 1961 and was head coach, general manager of the Denver Broncos, being awarded AFL Coach of the Year in 1962. He also served on the coaching staffs of the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. After retiring from coaching in 1980, he was named the Rams' assistant general manager as administrator and director of football operations.
