Obituary for James Carroll Holbrook
CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - James Carroll Holbrook, 72, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at his home.

Born in Castlewood, Virginia; son of the late Jesse C. and Alese Baker Holbrook. Preceded in death by one brother, Charles Henry Holbrook. Graduated from Castlewood High School in 1961 and was drafted into the United States Army on January 20, 1964. During the Vietnam conflict he served a one year tour of duty in Thailand. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1966 from Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. He took a machine shop class at Wise Technical School, and worked as a machinist at Green Lee Brothers in Rockford, Illinois for twenty years.

He is survived by three sisters, Patsy Lambert and husband, Robert of Castlewood, Virginia, Janet Bergeron and husband, Al of Winchester, Virginia, and Mary Helen Holbrook and Richard of Kingsport, Tennessee; two brothers, Gary Holbrook and wife, Diane of Bristol, Tennessee and Freddie Holbrook and wife, Oma of Castlewood, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for James Carroll Holbrook will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. George Jordan and Rev. Scott Million officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
