James (Jim) Bowen gave the first dollar to start the Louisiana Baptist Home For Children in 1898. As of 2014, it is still a viable organization, helping orphaned children.

My Bowens are in Ga. Do you have any ancestors on Jim who go back to GA?

William Thomas Bowen is Jim's grandfather. William Thomas Bowen was born in 1817 in Waycross, Ware, Georgia. He died in 1899 in Union Parish, Louisiana. My family does not know anything about William's parents nor do we know who his first wife was. We know he had at least two children prior to his subsequent two wives. We think there may be some connection to the famous missionary Thomas Jefferson Bowen because William Thomas Bowen named his first son Thomas Jefferson Bowen. Possibly after his fathers name? We don't know for sure. What information do you have? I would appreciate any light you can provide on this. Thank you! Gary E. Gray. [contact link]

I can go back in my line directly to Needham Bowen 1812-1870. He was born in Duplin Co, NC. according to most census records, one shows his birth as SC but I don't know who gave the info that year. There were quite a few Bowens that moved down from Duplin co. I have 3 deed records showing Needham purchasing land in Telfair co GA. There seems to be other Bowens in Dodge Co that are related, but I am unsure of the relationship. I have a George Washington Bowen but no T J that I know of. Still it would be likely that Bowens in the same area are related. I have a DNA cousin who thinks that perhaps our gggf's were brothers. She has a probable line going back into RI & NJ to Bowentown and the Indian Wars. I have a tree on [external link] that is accurate back through Needham. Beyond that it is a compilation of maybe's. Do you have a family tree somewhere I can access? I am in OK. You? Lola Alice Fraser Conley

I was born in Springhill, Louisiana and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. I now live in Spring, Texas, a northern suburb of Houston.. My mother's parents were from Bernice Louisiana, the same place my Bowen ancestors lived and are buried.

[external link] This takes you to a tree in ancestry dot com. You may need to sign up as a guest to view. I have no proof as to who Needham's 1812-1870 parents truly were. I have been searching diligently. On ancestry it appears that most people believe it to be a son of Clifton. I have a DAR friend who is at convention now trying to find some paperwork to prove his parentage. I connected Edward to Needham for you to make it easier to see that line. Lola
