He was married three times in his life, and is known for being one of the first Black Police Officers in Dallas. He was one of 4 Black Officers in Dallas at the time, and joined in 1948 along with William Starks and Charles Thompson. These Black officers patrolled the historic Black enclave State-Thomas neighborhood just north of downtown Dallas and at the time, were not allowed to arrest white people. Over time, the racial restrictions thinned out and these officers, including Dawson, began to share their experiences in media interviews. My mom's side of the family is Swedish (and still lives in Sweden) and she instilled in me lots of Swedish heritage and traditions which has made me who I am today. My dad's side of the family is German and Irish and the most likely the side of the family I get all my freckles from.
