Joao Gilberto
João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira, known as João Gilberto, was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was a pioneer of the musical genre of bossa nova in the late 1950s; as such, he is sometimes known as the "father of bossa nova". In his native Brazil, he was referred to as "O Mito." Born: June 10, 1931, Juazeiro, State of Bahia, Brazil Died: July 6, 2019, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Spouse: Miúcha (m. 1965–1971), Astrud Gilberto (m. 1959–1964) Children: Bebel Gilberto, João Marcelo Gilberto, Luisa Carolina Gilberto Songs The Girl From Ipanema Getz/Gilberto Vol. 2 · 1966 Desafinado Chega de Saudade · 1959 Chega de saudade Chega de Saudade · 1959 Mr. Gilberto lived an extremely private life in Rio de Janeiro, which fascinated the Brazilian news media. In 2004 he had a daughter, Luisa Carolina, with his manager, Cláudia Faissol. According to The Associated Press, his survivors include Luisa; his son, from his marriage to Astrud Gilberto; and another daughter, Bebel Gilberto, a popular singer, from his marriage to Miúcha. In 1997 Mr. Gilberto sued EMI, the licenser of his first three albums, because he felt his early music had been poorly remastered on a 1992 CD reissue; he maintained that the unauthorized remastering of the original tapes violated his rights. The albums in question were taken off the market, and in a 2015 ruling, Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice ruled in favor of Mr. Gilberto. Through his music, Mr. Gilberto radiated a simplicity that could seem like inscrutability. He liked sentimental songs but did not give audiences emotional cues. He told Mr. Wilson of The Times that he believed that singers’ feelings should not work their way into their songs. “Maybe I would like to go back to when I was a boy,” he said. “After that I learned too many things, and they came out in my music. So now I refine and refine until I can get back to the simple truth.” View 25+ more Albums View 45+ Getz/Gilberto (1964) Getz/Gilberto 1964 Chega de Saudade (1959) Chega de Saudade 1959 Amoroso / Brasil (1977) Amoroso / Brasil 1977 People also search for View 15+ Antônio Carlos Jobim Antônio Carlos Jobim Stan Getz Stan Getz Vinicius de Moraes Vinicius de Moraes

For fifty years I have been a Document Examiner and that is how I earn my living. For over 50 years I have also been a publicist for actors, singers, writers, composers, artists, comedians, and many progressive non-profit organizations. I am a Librettist-Composer of a Broadway musical called, "Nellie Bly" and I am in the process of making small changes to it. In addition, I have written over 100 songs that would be considered "popular music" in the genre of THE AMERICAN SONGBOOK.
My family consists of four branches. The Norwegians and The Italians and the Norwegian-Americans and the Italian Americans.
