John W. Holbrook Age 88 Plymouth, WI
Passed away late Saturday afternoon, (July 14) at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls where he had been a resident for the last 6 weeks. He was born on March 2, 1924 in Plymouth, a son of the late Charles G. and Charlotte L. Buelke Holbrook He attended Winooski Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1941. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force from 1943 – 1945 serving in World War II in the 483rd Bomb Group 817 Squadron in the North African Theatre and Italy. In later years, he wrote the book, “M.O.S. – 611 Career Gunner” describing his World War II experiences. On October 5, 1946, he married Ethel Ubbelohde in the Town of Sheboygan Falls. The couple resided in Greenbush, Glenbeulah and has resided in Plymouth since 1948. He worked at Weiss Implement Company in Glenbeulah for two years and also farmed in the area. He drove truck for Pfrang Oil Company and Plymouth Oil Company for 18 years and worked at Kohler Company in Kohler for two years as a mechanic and was employed at the Tecumseh Company in New Holstein, retiring in 1986 after eighteen years. His wife preceded him in death on June 11, 2010. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plymouth and served as a moderator and also taught Sunday school for many years and was Superintendent of the Sunday school. He was also a Trustee and Deacon of the Church. John was a charter member of the Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 and served on the House Committee. He was a member of the Plymouth Arts Foundation, the Sheboygan County Interfaith Organization, the Historical Society of Plymouth, a charter member of the Plymouth Future Farmers of America, and a former member of the Rotary Club in Plymouth. Survivors include: Three daughters: Mary Ellen (William) Kirchberg of Columbus, WI Sarah (Larry) Behr of Plymouth Barbara Ann Holbrook (Katherine Romme) of St. Paul, MN Two sons: Russell Lee (Judy) Holbrook of Gevena, IL Dr. Peter Holbrook (Tom Hoffman) of Milwaukee, WI
Nine Grandchildren: Gregory (Becky) Kirchberg of Columbus, WI Kimberly (Jerry) Lafler of Beaver Dam, WI Brian Kirchberg (Terri Theisen) of Columbus, WI Jennifer (Chris) Lund of Plymouth Michael (Torie) Behr of Plymouth Alyssa and Lindsay Holbrook of Geneva, IL Sara (David) Sortino of Milwaukee Rachel VanLiere of Milwaukee Twenty-Three Great grandchildren One brother: Donald (Lorraine) Holbrook of Fort Walton Beach, FL Two Brother-in-laws: Glendale DeBruine of Plymouth William Wick of New York Two Sister-in-laws: Mary Jane Ubbelohde of Sun Prairie, WI Bernice Ubbelohde of Sheboygan Falls, WI Special friends: Dr. Mary Arenberg and Dr. George Schroeder and their children Carl and Emma Schroeder all of Plymouth Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: David Holbrook and Kenneth (Adeline) Holbrook and brother and sister-in-laws: Marjorie (Thurston) LaFountain, Donald Ubbelohde, David Ubbelohde, Ruth (Dr. James Dean Sr.), Willard Ubbelohde, Marilyn DeBruine and Jeannette Wick.
Memorial services will be held on Friday Evening (JULY 27) at 7:00 P.M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plymouth. Rev. William Rishel, Pastor of the church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 4:00 P.M. on Friday until the time of services. The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post # 5612 will conduct military rites at the Church following the services. A memorial fund is being established in John’s name for the Sharon S. John’s family would like to thank Dr. George Schroeder, Staff at Libby’s House, Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility and all the “Angels” at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all their love, compassion and care for our Dad. We’re sure he is “winking” at you from heaven.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
