Joseph H. Beecher, 94, a longtime Hyannis MA lawyer, died on Feb. 19, 1999, at the Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville MA. Born in Roxbury MA, Mr. Beecher was a 1926 graduate of Boston College and graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1929.
From 1929 to 1949 he was in private practice in Boston with several firms. In 1949, he moved to the Cape and practiced law in Hyannis as an active trial lawyer until the late 1970s and maintained an office practice until 1990.
Mr. Beecher served as president of the Barnstable Bar Association in 1964 and 1965 and was a delegate to the Massachusetts Bar Association for a number of years. He also served as chairman of the Barnstable Board of Appeals for five years.
He was the husband of the late Claire (Ryan) Beecher.
He is survived by his son Superior Court Judge J. Michael Beecher of Newport Beach CA; a grandson; and five nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit MA.
