Junius Wharton
Junius E. Wharton, age 29 years, whose residence was Mitchellville, Iowa, enlisted August 2 and mustered-in as 5th Sergeant, Company D, 2nd Iowa Cavalry, August 30, 1861. He was promoted 4th Sergeant March 28 and 3rd Sergeant August 22, 1862. Sergeant Wharton was discharged for disability at Jackson, Tennessee, September 10, 1862. Brother Junius Wharton was a member of the Odd Fellow fraternity. He was a charter member and the first Noble Grand (president) of Phoenix Lodge #2 in Phoenix, Arizona. Brother Junius Wharton was also the first Grand Marshal of the Arizona Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows.
