Karen Sue (Dowell) Clowers was born on February 10th, 1957 in Louisiana, Missouri. She was the daughter of Louis Edwin Dowell (1926-1997) and Alma Della Fern McCormick (1932-2011). Karen had six siblings: Garry Ray Dowell, Kathy Ann Dowell, Sandra Fay Dowell, and Jerry Wayne Dowell, Roger, and Sharon.
Karen was married twice, first to John Leon Clowers (1931-2002) on December 7 1985, and then to Gary L. Patrick (1945-2010).
Karen Clowers was a home health worker who was sent by the Department of Veteran's Affairs to help care for Vietnam War veteran and wheelchair bound Andrew Madden. Karen did housework, made sure Andrew's meds were taken properly and cooked for him and his wife. By all accounts, Andrew and wife, Ruth Ann, had been happily married for over 25 years and all three became friends.
But Karen and Andrew feel in love. In 2002, Andrew lured Ruth Ann to a parking lot, where Karen shot Ruth Ann in the head. There was enough forensic and eye-witness evidence to point to Karen, Andrew, and Karen's son-in-law, John Lewis. All three were convicted: John of conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to 15 years; Andrew to second-degree murder and sentenced to 30 years, and Karen plead guilty to felony murder in the second degree and sentenced to life in prison. Karen passed away on March 2nd, 2011 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri at the age of 54, while in prison. According to her obituary, she was survived by two daughters, Patricia and Pamela, and eight grandchildren. See Karen Sue Clowers.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come.
I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
