Lincoln's Inaugural
Photo of the crowd at Lincoln's second inauguration, 1865. In the crowd are African American troops who marched in the inaugural parade. It was a rainy day at the U.S. Capitol grounds. The Civil War was almost at end. It was at the end of this inaugural speech that he said: "With malice toward none, with charity for all, ... let us strive on to finish the work we are in, ... to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations." Still words to live by.
