Obituary for Mr. James M. Quealey James M. Quealey Beloved Husband, Father & Grandfather LOWELL- James “Jim” Quealey passed away, surrounded by his family, on January 3, 2023. Jim was the son of David and Margaret (O’Hare) Quealey, born on October 6, 1939, in Dorchester MA. He was the beloved wife of Charlotte “Peachie” (Dowling) Quealey for over 52 years. Growing up in Lowell, he was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, and later a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. In 1965 Jim joined the Lowell Fire Department and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, he was a proud serving member for 39 years, retiring in 2004. When you didn’t find Jim at the firehouse, you could find him playing handball at “The Y” with his lethal corner shot, skiing, or playing golf at Long Meadow Golf Club with his wife, Peachie, to whom he was married for 52 years. Jim and Peachie enjoyed travelling, with Jim’s most memorable trip to his family farm in Ireland, being so proud of his Irish Heritage. In addition to his wife Peachie, Jim is survived by his daughter Holly (Quealey) McAnespie and her husband Dan of Lowell, Kerry (Quealey) Ryan and her husband Terry of Westford, and Son-in-Law Rob Gumb of Hollis, NH. His 8 grandchildren Meghan McAnespie, Hannah McAnespie, Matthew Ryan, Molly McAnespie, Alexandra Ryan, Emily Ryan, Addison Gumb, and William Gumb. Jim is now reunited with his beloved daughter, Jamie (Quealey) Gumb. Jim is also survived by his sister, Claire (Quealey) Dube and her husband Butch and pre-deceased by his brothers, David, John, and Joe Quealey. Peachie would like to thank the staff at Bayberry Emerald Court in Tewksbury for all their support in taking good care of Jim while he was a resident. Family and Friends may call at THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 144 East Merrimack St. LOWELL, on MONDAY, JAN. 9, 2023, from 10 AM until 11:45 AM. Mr. Quealey’s FUNERAL MASS will begin at 12 NOON. Burial will follow in ST MARY’S CEMETERY. Margaret Quealey of 221 Moore St., Lowell, died yesterday afternoon at St. John's Hospital. She was born in County Clare, Ireland, a daughter of the late John and Susan (Clancy) O'Hare. Mrs. Quealey received her education in Ireland before coming to this country at the age of 19. Mrs. Quealey was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish for many years and was also a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She was the widow of David Quealey who died in 1956. Her survivors include four sons, David of Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, Maine, John, Joseph and James Quealey, a Lieutenant in Lowell Fire Department, all of Lowell; one daughter, Mrs. Philip (Clare) Dube of Chelmsford; nine grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, among them Sister Jeanne d'Arc O'Hare, SSJ of Regis College. - The Lowell Sun, Feb. 20, 1986.
